In the past, CCTV cameras were networked through wires, which was costly, and there was a jumble of wires. The remote monitoring of cameras was also not possible, as there was no effective method to monitor the camera remotely. But the introduction of IP based cameras has made remote surveillance possible. It also removed the jumble of wires from connecting camera to display systems, as it connects wirelessly through Wi-Fi network.

CCTV cameras can be used in residential, commercial and industrial places, as all of such places require security surveillance with physical security, and need a recorded proof if needed. Commercial buildings have a bigger market share as compare to residential and industrial, due to use of a large number of security cameras in one building as due to the growing needs.

There are many types of security cameras application for surveillance. Some of the popular types of security cameras include dome cameras, bullet cameras, box cameras, and PTZ cameras. Dome cameras are the most commonly used cameras. Bullet cameras are mostly used for outdoor surveillance due to their long-distance viewing.

Box cameras are in the shape of old CCTV cameras and very obvious to intruders. PTZ cameras are mostly used for live surveillance due to their versatile movement. It also has the ability of zooming to get a clear view of the situation. Dome cameras account for a major market share as compared to other types of cameras, due to its huge demand in both residential and commercial places.
