Sonos and Google worked together, in 2013, on the development of smart speakers focusing on the ability to integrate with Google Assistant to play music wirelessly in different rooms. For the developments of speakers, Sonos also shared blueprints of the speakers. Then, in 2015 Google presented its own smart speakers with the same technology used by Sonos and started selling it at a low price than Sonos. Sonos is selling it over US$ 100, while Google is selling it for below US$ 50, which also affected the Sonos market.

Like any other companies which were affected by big companies, Sonos also stayed silent for years, but according to its CEO, Patrick Spence, it is the time to take actions against big companies which are trying to ruin small companies. So, now Sonos filed lawsuits against Google in two federal court systems, which covers wireless speaker design, ban on the Google’s speakers, laptops and mobile phones in the US, and also seeking financial damages. One of the rights includes technology that is used for connecting speakers in different rooms wirelessly.

Google has denied all the charges filed against it and confirmed that it is ready to take its product into court and justify its difference from Sonos product.

Amazon has also already launched its smart speakers, which also use the same technology as of Sonos. But Sonos is trying to ignore it for the time being, as going against two big technology giants at the same time makes it more challenging to win, and even defend.

Sonos advertised its products on Google and also sell it on Amazon online market. It also uses Amazon and Google services in its business, but according to company officials both are trying to harm the Sonos business and the lawsuit seemed necessary.

Although Sonos filed a suit against Google to set an example, as Sonos is quite low on resources as compared to Google, so Sonos will face a quite hard time in defending its lawsuit against Google.
