The global market size for data centre servers was around $ 43 billion in 2019. The market will see high growth in the coming years owing to high demand by various emerging companies.

Some of the drivers behind the data centre server market include high demand for remote storage places, increase in the use of the internet, rising number of connected devices, need for online services at an enterprise level, and increasing spending on data centre technology.

In 2020, the market size of data centre servers will further increase due to COVID-19. Most parts of the world have remained in lockdown, which increases the demand for various services: the need for online work from home; online educational classes; multifold rise in playing online games.

The companies or institutions providing the services need to add more servers or manage their servers more efficiently to facilitate all customers. The global market value of data centre servers is expected to increase by 6.4% to reach the market value of $ 45 billion in 2020.

Some of the players in the data centre server market include IBM, Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Hitachi, Oracle, Cisco, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Inspur, SuperMicro, Silicon Graphics International Corp., Bull (Atos), and NEC.

The common types of servers that are used in data centres include rack servers, tower servers, and blade servers. A rack server, or rack-mounted server, is the type of server which is designed to be mounted within a server rack. The rack includes multiple mounting slots known as bays.

Each bay contains a hardware unit secured in it with screws. A tower server is the computing device used as a server, which is built in an upright standalone box; the box is similar in shape of a tower-style personal computer.

A blade server is the type of server in which combines multiple thin, modular electronic circuit boards in the shape of a box, and these circuit boards are known as server blades. The rack and blade server sound familiar but the main difference is in the way of an installation rack server is a standalone cabinet, while blade server needs to work in one chassis with each other.

As the world is moving towards more advanced and automated future and the need for data centre server is seem to be more in the future. Everything will be connected in future, such as smart city, connected cars, connected homes. Consequently, there will be a need for more data centre servers to save the data in real-time.

Although there is now an on-going trend of buying online storage places, such as AWS, and Google, which can also be accessed from anywhere, these storage places are efficient for small businesses and for large companies one will always need a separate data canter with its own servers.
