In 2019, the world’s largest producer of iron ore was Vale of Brazil, who had 611 million tonnes of iron ore mining capacity, equivalent to ~15% of the world total.

In number two position was Rio Tinto, who had ~470 mt of iron ore mining capacity, equal to ~12% of the world total.

The number three slot went to Austalia’s BHP Billiton Group, who had ~412 million tonnes of mine capacity. This was equivalent to roughly 10% of 2019 global capacity.
