What is the future of e-cigarettes?

  • 6

I have been against electronic cigarettes from day one. But now it seems that e-cigarettes are proving worse than tobacco cigarettes.

The future of the tobacco industry is not that lucrative as it was before. Very few major companies dominated the market, and it is hard for new entrants. Taxes, legislations, health risks ads are putting more pressure on the industry.

With the innovation of e-cigarettes or vaping, it was thought that it would pose a more significant threat to the traditional tobacco industry.

The E-cigarette was considered a cure for quitting smoking. Was it? No.

Researchers revealed that e-cigarettes smokers are highly likely to be attracted to using tobacco cigarette. So, a flavoured e-cigarette is even considered the first step toward smoking.

Liquids in the e-cigarettes contain highly addictive nicotine as well as some other compounds which are potentially harmful. Moreover, the vapour contains traces of metals, which can be either from the coil or some other parts of the device.

There is strong evidence of vaping-linked severe pulmonary diseases. Recently, it has been reported that e-cigarettes have killed six people and sickened hundreds in the US.

In June 2019, San Francisco became the first US city which banned sales and manufacturing of e-cigarettes.

I do not think e-cigarette would enjoy high demand growth in the coming years. E-cigarettes companies need to spend more on R&D and introduce less hazardous products.

An E-cigarette is one bad substitute for another bad thing. Companies should spend more on research to reduce harmful contents and produce safe products.
