VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is basically the exchange of voice data over the internet. Users can send voice and other communication data over the internet rather than using cellular communication. Communication through cellular technology is quite costly, and connectivity through the internet is common nowadays.
VoIP provides users with a feature to use the internet, which is already for voice communication, rather than using the extra money on purchasing cellular packages for voice communication.
The basic features that VoIP provides as compared to traditional cellular communication are low-cost voice calls, support for video communication, portability and flexibility.
There are two types of VoIP service: one is free while the other is paid. The paid service allows users to make direct voice calls to any phone numbers around the world. The receiving party receive the call on his phone numbers as usual without the need for internet. These VoIP services are extremely cheaper for making international calls compared to calling from a cell or landline number.
The free VoIP services are usually in the form of apps and free to use for communication over the internet. However, the calls are chargeable for making calls to personal phone numbers.
Some of the free apps used as VoIP communication includes

      • FaceTime
      • Google Voice
      • IMO
      • NobelApp
      • Rebtel
      • Skype
      • Viber
      • Vonage
      • Voxofon
      • WhatsApp

These free apps have advantages but they have a few weaknesses such as no tracks of the location in case of emergencies, required a reliable internet connection, and also both persons need to be online at the same time.
