There are several types of computing, some of them are explained below

      Cloud computing

Cloud computing is gaining attraction since the day of its introduction in 1960. It continued to evolve with a lot of developments. Cloud computing changes the traditional way of computing because now computing can also be done through a cloud or online. Some of the examples of cloud computing include SaaS, Digital Ocean, Google App Engine, and Amazon EC2.

      Edge computing

Usually, people confused cloud with edge computing, but there is a difference between both of them. Cloud computing perform most of its data processing through a series of centralised servers, while edge computing keeps the data away from centralised servers and perform the processing on end devices rather than dragging back the data to servers.

      Distributed computing

Distributed computing has the feature of not relying on centralised servers, and it is used for several years. But the introduction of blockchain gives it a lift up. Many of the top IT companies are working on the development of distributed computing, and some of them even offer a platform for users, to deploy their own distributed networks and applications. The developments are still in the nascent stage and will take time to reach maturity.

      Grid computing

Grid computing use resources from various domains for a common goal. In grid computing, different computers can work together for the same task and can act as a supercomputer. The computers or nodes in a grid computing are connected in a parallel structure and appear like a cluster of computers. Grid computing is used in areas such as ATM banking and backend infrastructures.

      Utility Computing

Utility computing is basically a model of providing internet service to customers, in which the user is charged with only the services that are used instead of flat prices. It is an efficient way to charge customers. Utility computing is usually used by telecom companies to provide their internet services to customers.
