What are the differences between power and voltage amplifier?

  • 0

An amplifier is fundamental to modern electronics that is used to improve or increase the strength of the electronic signals applied to its inputs. They are mostly used to increase the current, voltage, or power signal depending on the requirements.

Power and voltage amplifiers are used for different purposes in an electronics system. The major differences between both are the following:

      Power amplifier

      • The power amplifiers are designed to gain maximum output power
      • Power amplifiers are used for the power signal
      • The power amplifier input signal has to be of a high magnitude.
      • In power amplifiers transformer are used
      • They are mostly used in high voltage signals
      • The current gain in the power amplifier is very high
      • During its operation, the transistor used will dissipate more heat generation than the voltage amplification. Due to this, the power amplifiers use an additional cooling mechanism

      Voltage amplifier

      • Voltage amplifiers are intended to attain maximum voltage amplification. However, raising the level of power isn’t essential.
      • The voltage amplification amplifies the voltage or raises the signal strength.
      • They can work with low magnitude signals.
      • In amplifiers, RC coupling is used.
      • Voltage amplifiers are used in low voltage signals.
      • The current gain is also very high in voltage amplifiers.
      • During heat dissipation, the transistor used can dissipate a very less amount of heat production. Therefore, the efficiency of the voltage amplifier is higher than the power amplifiers.
