What are advantages and disadvantages of DC servo motor?

  • 2

The operating principle of DC motor is the same as those of other electromagnetic motors, but the design, construction and their operations modes are different. The rotor of the DC motor is designed very long with a smaller diameter. DC servo motor is not equipped for high current spikes and is typically best adapted for smaller applications.

Advantages and disadvantages of DC servo motor

      DC servo motor advantages:

      • They have significantly higher power output than motor weight and size.
      • These motor does not produce any noise when running at high speeds.
      • DC servo motor is free to resonance and vibrate.
      • They have high torque to inertia ratio and can rapidly pick up the loads.
      • High efficiency. At light loads, it can hit 90%.

      DC servo motor disadvantages:

        • DC servo motor has an inefficient cooling mechanism. They get quickly polluted when a motor is ventilated.
        • The DC servo produces maximum power output at higher speed and requires regular gearing.
        • The overload can damage these kinds of motors.
        • The DC servo has a complex design, and it requires an encoder.
        • DC servo requires tuning to stabilize the feedback loop.
        • Maintenance is required in DC servo.
