Is there any type of solution that works on both C-V2X and DSRC?

  • 1

C-V2X is expanding while DSRC is also going to stay, at least in the medium term. So what would be the technology solution which would be compatible with both C-V2X and DSRC?

There are several companies working on the development of solutions which can work on both C-V2X and DSRC. One of the Examples is SOM-301 System-on-Module made by Unex. This module has the capability of working with both DSRC and C-V2X. This module can be used by automakers all over the world despite focusing on technology used in a specific country.

As V2X communication involves vehicles and RSU’s (roadside units), so the RSU’s manufacturing companies are also working on creating the RSU’s that are compatible with both C-V2X and DSRC.

One of the recent examples is NEMA developing the standard for RSU’s that will be able to work with both DSRC and C-V2X. The standard is known as “NEMA TS 10 Connected Vehicle Infrastructure-Roadside Equipment”. With this standard, both technologies (C-V2X and DSRC) will be able to work in the same spectrum through the dual-mode roadside active device. The expected date for completion of the standard is the end of 2019.
