Due to its involvement in various businesses, Amazon also announced its global Climate Pledge, in September 2019. The company has a target to roll out approximately 100,000 electric vehicles for delivery purposes around the world, by 2030.

According to Amazon, the electric delivery vehicles will be all-electric with no CO2 emissions through which it will keep the environment clean, and can help in the reduction of cost for home deliveries.

As a part of the bigger plan, Amazon announced the rolling out of electric delivery rickshaws in India and set a goal for setting out about 10,000 electric vehicles, both three and four-wheelers, for delivery purposes in India, by 2025. The rolling out was announced by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, through a tweet on 20th January 2020, in which he also upload a video of his driving an electric rickshaw.

Amazon made this possible by partnering with various companies in India by launching various pilot projects across the country in 2019. This year the goal set by Amazon India is the rolling out of electric vehicles in approximately 20 cities of India, which includes Coimbatore, Delhi, Nagpur, Pune, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad.

Moreover, Amazon is also in a battle with CAIT (Confederation of All India Traders), which is blaming Amazon for providing online products with high discounts and low prices which is violating the foreign investments rule in India. To solve the dispute Mr Bezos, also made partnerships with thousands of Indian corner stores (Kirana stores), which will act as a delivery point for Amazon packages. It is good for Amazon delivery business as customers will find the pick and drop point quickly. It will also help the retailers to earn some extra money.
